Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them.
Done - ish.  Instead of introducing myself to people, I went around and left comments on fics by people I don't know. I love getting comments on fics from random strangers (especially older fics), so hopefully this made people happy :)

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.
Oh, this is a fun one! ♥

Personal Wishes
  • Transformative works based on anything I've written. Art, podfic, remixes, covers and banners... anything! I'd love anything!
  • Reviews and comments, especially on little-reviewed/little-commented works
  • Recs for Bellatrix/Lily smut... I can never seem to find any!
  • Someone other than me to write Lucius/Alice, Rodolphus/Rabastan, Rodolphus/Narcissa, Druella/Abraxas and/or Lucius/Peacock ;)
  • UNBELIEVABLE LEVELS OF PERSONAL FAME I mean what?
Fandom Wishes
  • A constant onslaught of fests, big bangs and exchanges! I can never have enough!
  • More love for rarer pairs. I'd like rare pair fests and comms to be more popular, and my biggest wish is for rare pairs to be prompted more in all-pairing fests (*sighs at all the Hermione and Harry and Snape and Draco and Weasleys*)
  • More love for Bellamort
  • More love for femmeslash
  • Are these unreasonable wishes?
  • People to continue writing Harry Potter fic, making communities, participating in fests, commenting, reccing and squeeing!

Day One

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

Right, well, first thing, digging through the obscene amount that I've written was definitely the fun part of this one. I tried very hard to narrow it down to three, but I couldn't, so you're actually getting seven. Sorry...

Anyhow, let's get started.

These are the five works that, if everything else about me was forgotten, I'd want to have people remember. These are five that, not only do I consider my more solid work, but that more or less span the range of what I write. If I wanted to give people a good idea of the sort of things I write, these would be what I'd think about.

1. Ghost of a Rose (Rabastan/Andromeda, Rabastan/Voldemort). Okay, funny thing about this one, it's actually a companion to a similar story called Autumn Sky that I wrote before, which I would have considered one of my defining works before I wrote this. At first, I didn't like how this was going at all, but it picked up momentum as I went. I consider this a bit of a bridge between Autumn Sky and Les Étrangers - a bridge between my older, relatively light, more action-focussed style and my newer, darker, more character/world-building-based style.

2. Darkest Romance (Bellatrix/Voldemort). No Gamma!list would be complete without Bellamort, after all. Darkest Romance is a drabble collection, which is a genre that I have a beautiful love-hate relationship with on account of loving drabbles but rarely having the patience to finish collections. Darkest Romance isn't anything new or innovative, I don't think, but it is pretty much the prototypical example of Bellamort.

3. Roses Lie Waiting (Narcissa). This is where I started to get really quite morbid in my writing. Up until this point, I primarily wrote angsty but ultimately non-traumatizing stories about unpleasant moments in peoples' lives, and this remains one of the darkest things I've written, rivalled only by Cassiopeia's Asylum. Roses Lie Waiting was also the first time that I really started creating head!canon for the Black family that remained consistent for any period of time, and it irrevocably changed my opinion on Cygnus Black. *Shudders*

4. Fascination of the Darkest Kind (Lily Luna). I've gone on about this one before, so I'll be brief. This is where I started getting autobiographical, where I started exploring not only the twisted psyches of my characters, but also of myself, taking my own thoughts, neuroses and obsessions to their logical conclusion at a level higher than what they'd reached in me. I'm working on a longer, more detailed version of this story, and if I was anywhere near done, I'd put it in this slot, but it's not, so.

5. Innocent (Luna). This also goes in the category of "feels like no one ever saw" :P This was rather experimental for me - I don't often write Luna's point of view (because DAMN, she's difficult), but the idea of writing Luna, not as the quirky, cheerful character she is in OotP and HBP, but more as a rather disturbed, socially isolated, emotionally undeveloped, slightly creepy character with a very poor grasp of how to interact with others (which, at times, she kind of is)... that appealed to me. I want to work with that character more, but Innocent was the reason I became interested in it in the first place.

Day Two
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.

In the interest of fairness, of course, I've chosen to do five of these as well. These don't have any particular theme - they're just fanworks that I keep going back to over and over again.

1. Dancing in Snow (Luna). AAWWWWWW. LOOK AT LUNA AND HER LILAC CLOTHES AND HER HAT AND HER RADISH EARRINGS AND HER HAIR AND THE SNOWFLAKES AND JUST SQUEEEEEEEEE ♥ I can't even say anything coherent about this, it just makes me feel so happy and wintery and wanting of Luna's coat.

2. Pansy/Blaise and I'm not sure if this has a title. Delphine, darling, does it? *Ahem* Let me just make clear from the start that nearlyconscious is A FABULOUS ARTIST and everything she touches is gorgeous. I especially like this because it's also funny on so many different levels (which get progressively more wrong the longer you think about it, so that's always good!). Do check out her fanart tag and look at everything else too :)

3. Marked for Death (Death Eaters). It's a little disturbing to go back and read this now and realize how much this one story shaped me. I read it before I got into the fandom properly, when I was just dipping my toes in in secret and it... wow. Details about the characterization (Rabastan, most notably, but the other characters as well) were parts of my head!canon when I started writing, and they only became better-established as I went on. The world is fantastic, the characters are fantastic, and unlike most things in the "humour" category in ff.net, it's legitimately funny. I owe a lot to this story, and everyone should read it.

4. My Immortal by Zenia Wulfe (Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way). Okay, the first couple of videos in this series are... not so great, but then Zenia Wulfe hits her stride and these become ONE OF THE BEST ADAPTATIONS OF MY IMMORTAL THAT I'VE EVER SEEN. I consider My Immortal deeply hilarious, and the art going along with them is brilliant.

5. Rising Up (Draco/Luna). Hey, friends, do YOU like getting your heart torn out and stomped into the ground? Do you feel an urge to inject more heartbreak into your life? If so, you should read this. I won't go into too much detail for fear of spoiling it, but... tears were shed over this.

Prompting has ended and the creating period has begun at [livejournal.com profile] lily_and_black, and if you've been feeling any sort of urge to create Lily/Black family-themed fanworks, you should definitely go check out the prompts. There were a lot of very interesting ones, and I can't write them all myself, so you should :)

Prompting has also begun at [livejournal.com profile] hp_getlucky! I'm still debating how and what to prompt - most pairings I like don't lend themselves spectacularly well to the theme of good luck, to be quite honest.  My version of "fluffy" is pretty much "less emotional abuse than usual".

[livejournal.com profile] all_the_squee is a new community, created by the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] smallbrownfrog with the purpose of promoting activity in the Harry Potter fandom. You can participate in [livejournal.com profile] all_the_squee by reccing and commenting on fanworks (there will be bingo cards coming soon, with squares that you can fill by doing a certain amount of commenting and/or reccing), and by offering custom challenges to celebrate specific aspects of the fandom (full details on that here). The bottom line is: You should participate in this community, because Gamma wants to see the Harry Potter fandom as full of activity as possible... and you want to make Gamma happy, don't you?

Finally, I'm creating accountability for myself by saying here that I'm going to do the fandom snowflake challenge ([community profile] snowflake_challenge ).  I would do day one tonight, but it's two in the morning and I'm half asleep, but stay tuned for that in the very near future.

Hello everyone!  How are you?  Good?  Festive-feeling?  I'm festive-feeling.

I LOVE DECEMBER.  It's my favourite month.  I feel like there's just happiness in the air, even here, where the weather is absolutely miserable.  So you're all going to have to quietly sit through my Christmas/Holiday squee :)

Participate!
HEY HEY HEY GUYS.  You want to celebrate post-Christmas with Lily and the Blacks, right?  You want to go leave prompts for this fest, right?  You know you want to :D  Come on, I need you to help me get through January and February, which are my least favourite months...

Or if you don't want to celebrate with Lily and the Blacks, how about celebrating with Draco and Luna?

Banner made by [livejournal.com profile] swissmarg

I've extended the prompting period until the fifteenth, so you should pop on over and leave some Draco/Luna prompts :)  (Threesomes/moresomes are also allowed... *entices*)

Or how about being an elf and granting some wishes? [community profile] fandom_stocking is open, with wish lists from all sorts of people!  Comment to their posts with all sorts of festive goodness :)  PS: The Harry Potter tag is here.  PPS: My stocking is here ;)

Read!
[livejournal.com profile] mini_fest is posting, and I believe that certain people on my friends list have a) had awesome things posted on it already and/or b) are writing multiple things for it.  I'm setting aside time this weekend to go through and read everything, it's all so lovely.

[livejournal.com profile] nextgen_mas is also posting!  Try to guess which story I wrote ;)
gamma_orionis: Image of Tom Riddle from "Harry Potter". Text reads "the dark lord was HOT!" (The Dark Lord was HOT!)
The next unthemed round of [livejournal.com profile] hp_kink_memes is running now!  I made the executive decision to make the rounds relatively short and then have a "free-for-all" round, say, after round 5, instead of just waiting for each round to fill the comments, because having like 500 pages of comments on a post scares me.  I could NEVER sort through all of that, and the prompts on the later pages would end up being neglected.

Posting is going on at [livejournal.com profile] luna_romance!  \o/  So far, we've got Luna/Harry, Luna/Rolf and Luna/Neville posted, and both fic and art.  You should totally go check it out :)

Speaking of Luna, there's going to be a holiday prompt fest/ficathon hybrid thing at [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] user="draco_and_luna" />.  The rules and information are here, and the prompting post is here, and you guys should all go prompt because Draco/Luna.

And speaking of holidays, errr, trying to finish [livejournal.com profile] smutty_claus tonight.  *Headdesk*  I need to learn to stop letting myself leave finishing things to the last minute.

Also, in hindsight, I probably should have started [livejournal.com profile] angelic_bigbang before... um... today.  Hehehe OOPS.  Well, like, 9K is totally doable in one day, right?

SO HOW ARE YOU GUYS?
gamma_orionis: Image of the constellation "Orion" (NaNoWriMo)
I'm very glad that I live in inland, western Canada right now, because hurricanes sound Hellishly scary.  *Shivers*  I hope everyone who's in the path of Hurricane Sandy is safe.  I love you all and I don't want anything bad to happen to you, ever. ♥

In other news, I'm done [livejournal.com profile] hp_halloween and ahhh, I don't write enough lighthearted things :)

Time to buckle down on [livejournal.com profile] interhouse_fest... *cough*  I still have, like, a whole day to make it not suck, right?

Also... I'm getting in the mood for NaNoWriMo in a big way.  *Rubs hands together*  I should probably finish some of my November-due stuff before November starts...

THERE IS A THREESOME FIC EXCHANGE GOING ON AT [livejournal.com profile] hp_3somes.  YES.  YES.  YES.  And you people should join so that I know there'll be people I can write for because everyone in the whole universe seems to only ship Weasley things...

THING TWO:

banner by [livejournal.com profile] nearlyconscious
The first themed round of [livejournal.com profile] hp_kink_memes has started :D  The theme is "rare pairs", so there's lots of room to play around... and the unthemed round is still running, if you happen to get a craving for a non-rare pair :)
THING THREE:
I'm going to be spending the evening writing Bellatrix/Rodolphus/Narcissa.  Life is goooood.

THING FOUR:
Random: is anyone else having an issue with LJ where some of the words in default layouts seem to be in Russian?  Like, the "Post a new comment" thing says "Yeni bir mesaj gönder"...?
gamma_orionis: Image of the constellation "Orion" (Helena)
Ahhh, it feels good to be done.

I finished my [livejournal.com profile] vampirebigbang fic and I am, on the whole, pleased with how it turned out (I'm also reminded of how much I genuinely like Victoria from Twilight).  So that's done.

I also (pretty much) finished my [livejournal.com profile] hp_darkfest fic, but it's a hot mess and needs serious editing before I can even send it to a beta (it's written, not in English, but in Gammese, I swear), so I decided it would be in everyone's best interests for me to request an extension.  But hey, at least there are words!

Also, I applied to [livejournal.com profile] fandomverse and I am so conflicted as to whether that was a good idea.  But it all looked rather pretty, so I went ahead... if I end up doing nothing there, so be it.

So... now I think I might go work on, like, school stuff or something.  Maybe.  Or maybe I'll just watch Youtube videos for a few hours.

Have I mentioned, by the way, that I love you all?  Because I do.  And I'm overcome with feelings of love and I want to hug people.  *Hugs stuffed platypus instead because you are all too far away*

(I apologize for this entry.  My brain has been fried by vampires and Death Eaters)
gamma_orionis: Image of Jack from "The Shining". Text reads "Did someone say murder spree?" (Murder Spree?!?)
WHEN DID IT SUDDENLY BECOME THE SIXTEENTH?

[livejournal.com profile] vampirebigbang final draft.  Must send in.  (Must actually finish before I send in, goddamnit.  I accidentally sort of rewrote half of it and scrapped a big chunk of what I had done before and now it's way too short and I need to take about two hours to finish it).

And I should probably start my [livejournal.com profile] hp_darkfest fic.  You know, since it's due today.  *Headdesk*
gamma_orionis: Image of the constellation "Orion" (Default)

The first (and unthemed) round of [livejournal.com profile] hp_kink_memes is now running :D  I feel rather proud of myself, really, and I do hope that there will be some interest ;)

(In hindsight, I probably should have planned a little more before deciding to run this, but whatever.  Let Draco's smouldering glare distract you from my impulsiveness)

Thing one:

worshipdarklord is hosting a friending meme!  If you're a member, you should go participate and make new, LV-loving friends, and if you aren't a member, you should be.

Thing two:

As the first step of my "make draco_and_luna not dead" plan, there's going to be Draco/Luna bingo going on.  There's a list of prompts from which you can choose and you only have to create a minimum of three fanthings related to Draco/Luna to participate, so if you have any interest in Draco/Luna, you should pop over and participate in that.

Thing three:

It's the last day of claiming at <a href="luna-romance.livejournal.com>luna_romance</a>! &nbsp;GO. &nbsp;GO CLAIM PROMPTS. &nbsp;THEY ARE PRETTY AND SHINY AND WAITING FOR YOU. Cross-posted from LiveJournal. Comment on either site &hearts;

I finally made all the necessary changes to my [community profile] luciusbigbang fic and sent it in!

Hurrah!

This is the earliest I've ever finished a big bang, I think.

So many thanks to [personal profile] y3llowdaisi3s for betaing, [profile] secretlypadfoot for cheerleading and [profile] couture_girl_20 for generally enthusiasm-ing :)

[livejournal.com profile] worshipdarklord is a new community that we've created for any and all fanworks concerning the Dark Lord.  It's all going to be extremely exciting - we've got wonderful things planned for people who join ;)

All pairings, genres, ratings and types of fanworks are welcome!

(But, of course, because I'm involved, NC-17-rated Bellamort is, ah... the most welcome.)

I apologize for my posting habits.  This is what happens when I spend too much time on the computer.

So, a couple of you are familiar with the community [livejournal.com profile] draco_and_luna.  It's a pretty standard community and it's dedicated to Draco/Luna.

So here's the thing: the moderator ([livejournal.com profile] jadebear) is leaving LJ and she wanted someone to pass ownership of the community on to.  Crusader for good that I am, I've taken up the challenge and will now be modding it.  It's pretty... empty of activity... and I'd very much like for this to change because, hello, Druna.

So what I'm trying to say is that if you like Draco/Luna, you should go over there, join, post things and give me ideas for what to do with it.

Mmkay?

I love you all. ♥

Thing One: A friending meme, because I love them. ♥

Thing Two: Reveals are up at [livejournal.com profile] deflower_draco!  Anyone following the fest who knows me would have been able to guess which fic was mine (there was only one Draco/Luna, what a tragedy...).  There were a lot of very cool pairings and fics - Draco/Lavender, Draco/Mrs Zabini and (my personal favourite) Draco/Rabastan all made appearances.  I approve.

Finally, [livejournal.com profile] fred2303 did this in her journal and I thought it was a lovely, lovely idea.  So I stole it, because that's what I do.

"And that's who I am" is essentially a series of (very pretty!) pictures, each marked with a phrase that goes something like "I'm _____//and that's who I am".  As a big fan of pretty pictures, taking about myself, and being accepting of my personality traits (good and bad), I immediately started sorting throug the pictures.

There are literally hundreds, and I'm going to try to go through the entire list and post all the ones that apply to me.  I'll be doing them in groups of ten and adding commentary where I see fit (which will be after most of them).

Because hey, if nothing else, pretty pictures.
The First Ten... )

gamma_orionis: Image of the constellation "Orion" (The Crucible)
At last!  At last, the AO3 collection for [livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang is public.

This is wildly exciting.  I have this huge grin on my face and part of me just wants to hug my computer.  And now I'm going to blather about them.  Because I can.

First, about my Harry Potter story.

Okay... I procrastinated way too much on this thing, and to my serious detriment.  By the time I started to get towards the end, it was sucking the life out of me and I fear that it became a bit too repetative and angst-laden.

BUT.

But I still love it - every single word.  The agony that I inflicted upon myself over it was well worth it, because I've never before written anything that so thoroughly examines what a pair of bitches Rodolphus and Narcissa are.  I loved stepping back from the somewhat romanticised image of them that I can have in one-shots and drabbles and portraying them as two really awful people who are tearing apart everyone they care about and themselves as well.

AND THE ART.  The art is here, by [livejournal.com profile] twisted_slinky, and I just love it.  The pictures (Candice Night!Narcissa!  :D) and the composition are just lovely - dark and shadowy and beautiful and really wonderful.

And my Crucible story

This is... actually the first thing I've ever written in a fandom outside of Harry Potter (I don't count Twilight parody crossover things).  And what a first non-HP thing to write!  The Crucible caught my imagination in a big way when we read it last year in school (as I'm sure you all know by now) and I loved the twisted, obsessive, dangerous dysfunctionality of John/Abigail (I'd already signed up for [livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang with Narcissa/Rodolphus when we read The Crucible and I was just like "screw it, signing up twice").  Again, I just love that everyone in the story is horrible and I do hope that no one (least of all John) came across as entirely sympathetic.  John's a bastard.  Which, of course, is what I love about him.

It was odd having to do research for fanfiction.  I... didn't do much, so I'm sure that there are historical innaccuracies all over the place, but I feel like I got to do some fun detail-putting-in that I don't usually get to do when I'm writing for Harry Potter.  Like John's sons' names.  And the mould on the rye.

AND THERE'S A FANMIX FOR IT.  It's here, and [livejournal.com profile] tree did some very awesome music finding and I've listened to the mix several times already because everything in it fits so well into the story.  If I hadn't only started listening well after I wrote most of it, I'd think I'd internalized the lyrics (the line I think the Good Book is missing some pages comes to mind) and subconciously written the story with them in mind.  I think finding music that fits tonally with a story based on The Crucible must be a terrible task, given the Puritan's dislike of music, but almost all of it (and especially Icicle by Tori Amos and First Snow by Clint Mansell) had exactly the right sound.  I also like that - while according to her notes, most of the songs were chosen with Abigail in mind - a lot of them fit John as well...

I'm going to start posting my two stories here and at ff.net... soonish.  I don't need to post all at once, the way I've had to with other big bangs, so I'll space out the chapters a little more.

Now, I believe I shall go puruse all the other things that people have written...
